Hampton is a city in western Henry County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,857. Census Estimates for 2005 show a population of 4,743. The Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Tara Field airport 4A7 are located 3 miles or 5 km west of Hampton. A major air traffic control center which also covers the south east United States is also located in Hampton. It was once known as Bear Creek or Bear Creek Station, named for a creek that runs through the area. The town was moved and renamed when the Railroad was built approx. 1 mile to the east.
