Lincolnton is a city in Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,966 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Lincoln County. The city and the county were named for Major General Benjamin Lincoln, who served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Lincolnton, a former textile mill town, is located northwest of Charlotte.
